The PROVON 4541-12 perineal skin protectant with 60 percent petrolatum is a water-resistant emollient that helps provide a temporary barrier to urine and fecal matter to protect perineal skin, and comes in a 5 oz. tube for portability. This white semisolid ointment is 60 percent petrolatum, and also contains a modified starch, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, to provide a nongreasy texture. Petrolatum, also known as petroleum jelly, is recognized by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be a safe and effective skin protectant.
