Expect to trim off loose threads around the edges and be sure to wash it before use. The label on the blanket reads "100% Polyester" while the label on the package reads "100% Cotton". I burned one of the above loose threads and can verify it is readily flammable cotton. No polyester melt. I like to use the knit style blanket in warmer months since it breaths while giving a comforting blanket snuggle. It arrived looking a bit faded and covered in pills and lint. I thought that maybe it was the pilling and the lint that made it look shabby/faded so I washed it according to the care instructions. My mistake. It became even worse and now looks horribly faded, not even close to the advertised color. Thought maybe I could salvage it by using my fabric shaver...3 hours later it still looked like something I grabbed out of my grandparents linen closet that had been washed and used constantly for 50-some years. Such a bummer. Thought about trying to re-dye it but then I realized it would create more pills and lint and then the process would begin again. Short story, save your money and get something else. Not heavy at all. Very soft & comfy. Can be used with or without top sheet. I read all reviews and lots of other cotton blankets like this one had negative reviews about falling apart after laundering. The first thing I did when I received it was to launder it; just plain old wash in cold water and dry in dryer. It came out really great. It's soft, but not too hot and that's what I wanted; plus the price was GREAT! I LOVE it. The colors are off on both. The burgundy is more between rust and burgundy and the sage is more between mint and sage. The size is generous. They shed quite a bit upon removing them from their packaging, but after three washings and dryings they are fine. The weave is a bit too loose for my taste, however, the dryer shrunk it up a bit. They are extremely easy to snag (one arrived already snagged in the package). They are fairly thin but this is what I was looking for to use between my my sheet and my comforter so it works for me. The snagging will be a problem with pets, but that aside it is a fairly good cotton blanket
