My initial plan was to go with the Nikon D3200 - but everyone I spoke with (shooting with one) tried to sell me their setups, eager to upgrade to the 7100. I wanted a camera that I could grow into-- and I am confident I picked the right one! There is definitely a learning curve coming from a point-and-shoot, some of the controls are unintuitive/ very hidden. That being said- I never sat down with my manual, I just jumped right in and started playing around. Overall, I am so glad I chose this camera as my entry into the photography world. It has been a pleasure learning on. I am happy with the pictures I am taking- they just keep getting better and better. I love this camera and I know I am going to continue to love it for years to come. Still much to learn, but I feel like I am off to a great start, and excited to see what else I can do with it! I would definitely recommend the Nikon D7100 to others just starting off with photography (currently trying to talk my dad into buying one).Written by a customer while visiting Nikonusa.comWas this review helpful?Yes (0)No (0)ReportGlad I made the upgrade4/8/2013Average rating:5out of5stars, based onreviews4/8/2013by CCADstudentI have been shooting with the D5100 for about 4 years now. I go to school for photography and have been wanting to upgrade to a better camera. I was going to go with the D600 at first but only have one lens that is full frame, so it didn't make sense at the time. I'm glad I waited for the D7100 to come out. I do more sports and portraits and the 51 focus points stood out for sports for me. I just shot a wedding over the weekend with the D7100 and it performed beautifully, was inside for the reception with some of the worst lighting possible, but even at ISO 6400 this camera could take it. I'm happy with how the images have turned out. Battery also lasted me through 7 hours of shooting with about 700 images on that camera. Also if anyone is worried about moire, I would stop worrying. That was one thing I was afraid about but it won't happen, unless your photographing some seriously crazy details that are bright and shiny.Written by a customer while visiting Nikonusa.comWas this review helpful?Yes (0)No (0)ReportRead all reviews
