The ASICS GT-3000 5 is a basic, breathable trainer that combines sufficient cushion with structure and stability.

Nothing stands out as different, extreme, or negative; together with this its fit and function are superb, making it a secure, quality shoe for a reasonable price given its materials, performance, and durability.

Asics GT-3000 5 General Info

This is the shoe I’ve wanted from ASICS, with its snug toe box and 10mm offset! It’s very similar to Kayano in fit, but the women’s Kayano has a 13mm drop.


In testing this shoe I figured out why I prefer a more enclosed toe box even though I move to a roomy toe box for casual wear.

When running, the toe box feels like there’s more room in it, for me; immediately the pressure down in the forefoot with the change to a run, "opens it up.”

In watching a video from ASICS describing GT-3000, I learned that it is specifically designed to provide structure in the midstance phase where the bones need to pack together for toe-off.

Those of us with hyper mobility in the foot joints (I have loose ligaments) need the snug fit to "hold the foot in” and aid in more propulsive power through the toe-off.

Many people recommend sizing up 1/2 size given the snug fit, but I wear it in my regular size; my lax ligaments (the need for this shoe) are likely the reason that I also don’t get black toenails, as this is caused by the natural way toes lift up when swinging the foot forward (obviously mine don’t as much).

However, sizing up may make this shoe work for you if you want a little more room to move.

The GT-3000 5 also has medial posting with the brand’s Dynamic Duomax from the heel through midfoot and past the big toe.

This has been extended farther forward and backward (for heel strikers) from the 4th version of this shoe, and according to ASICS, extends through the toe which Kayano and GT-2000 do not.

History of ASICS 

In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan.  
He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body."  

Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness.
