The microphone will only work if the port is mic port. Below is an example of the microphone port. This port is normally present in all desktop and most laptop.


Please note that the microphone will not work with a combo port. An additional audio adapter will be required for this combo port. Below is an example of the combo port and audio adapter. This kind of port is normally present in laptop which are smaller and most smartphone.

If you want to test for the microphone input after receiving the microphone, you can follow the step below.

Go to control panel>hardware and sound


Under Sound, go to manage audio devices and you will get to the screen below. After that, try to speak to the mic to see if there is any response.


You can also go to the properties to listen to your microphone. Remember to tick listen to this device and click apply as shown in the picture below. In this case, you will be able to hear the sound that your microphone is picking up
