"I read about Apigenin research in a medical journal in my GP's waiting room. They described it's anti-cancer properties as a breakthrough, so I thought I'd try it out. It has also helped with my stress levels as my work environment is very pressurised"
- A natural bioflavonoid extracted from Grapefruit
- A powerful antioxidant that reduces inflammation
- Shown to fight cancer
- Counters stress and protects the brain
Apigenin is a naturally occuring plant flavone (bioflavonoid) that is known to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticancer properties. It is found in high concentrations in grapefruit, and also in the herbs chamomile and parsley. Apigenin is helpful in promoting health at cellular and molecular level. According to a study published in the journal, "Advances in Regenerative Biology", apigenin is a super-food for brain health.
Several studies have documented a confirmed role of apigenin in prevention and treatment of various types of cancers. Apigenin has been found to stop the spread of gastrointestinal cancers by inducing apoptosis and stopping blood supply that helps tumors to grow. It also reduces the glucose uptake by cancerous cells, thus preventing the tumor to grow and spread. According to a study done on cancer cells, this plant-dervied flavonoid inhibits angiogenesis and cell proliferation in tumor affected prostate.
Apigenin suppressed the migration rate of cancer stem cells compared to untreated cells. Apigenin is also known to promote brain health by improving the formation of brain cells and enhancing the nerve transmission process. It works by binding to estrogen receptors, which play a vital role in development, growth and function of brain and nervous system.
According to research, Apigenin can be beneficial in treating and preventing various neurodegenerative conditions like schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
