12 Seeds Delonix Regia (Royal Flower Poinciana, Flame Tree)
[Product Information]
- Delonix regia, the Royal Poinciana or Flame Tree, is a beautiful plant native of Madagascar and some other regions of Africa and Asia. It will reach up to 15 meters high and sometimes more than that wide! The flowers are very abundant and will delight your garden. It can be grown in pot.
- The plant can take up to 10 years before it blooms for the first time. It’s a long wait, but definitely worth it. The abundant flowers are odorant and lively. They appear between July and August. They each have 4 red-orange petals and the fifth one is white and marked with yellow and red. 30 cm long green stems grow along with the flowers and they hold the seeds in their pouch.
- The foliage is semi-persistent. It’s made up of large and decorative green leaves. Hardiness zones 10-11 (1ºC/35ºF, 4ºC/40ºF) in winter. The minimum temperature needed to cultivate this tree is 10°C. It needs light and humidity. Cultivation in a hot glasshouse or veranda is preferred if the climate is colder. The tree needs a lot of light, because it will grow weakly under a shade.
- It can live in an area where rain is abundant as much as it can live somewhere where it isn’t. It will develop a very large root system that can compromise the growth of surrounding shrubs and flowers.
