The coenzyme form of vitamin B-12 is known as methylcobalamin or methyl B-12. This form of vitamin B-12 directly participates in homocysteine metabolism.

In recent years, high levels of homocysteine have been found to be associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis. Vitamin B-12 assists in converting homocysteine to methionine which increases the supply of SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine). Not only can SAMe enchance mood and alleviate low or sad moods, it may also protect the joint linings and support liver health.

Methylcobalamin is metabolically active and easily absorbed by the body. This is the most highly reduced form of vitamin B-12, making methylcobalamin a very potent antioxidant. Our sublingual form yields the highest assimilation possible. Olympian Labs uses methylcobalamin because it is the only active form of vitamin B-12 available. Most formulas contain cyanocobalamin. This form must be converted by the body into methyl or adenosyl by removing the cyanide molecule.
