I'm not entirely sure how the shade is supposed to go on. it looks like it's meant to go over the base of the lightbulb fixture, but the hole isn't really big enough. if that is the case, you really have to press it down to get it to stay, which puts the shade at risk for damage (i.e. bending, smashing, etc). once you have it forced onto the base and try to adjust the bending so it's straight again, it typically will come loose again and you'll end up having to push it back down. this seem like quite a design flaw, unless i just got a defective one. I wasn't expecting much for that price so was very surprised and pleased when we unpacked them and they were beautiful! They are simple yet very classy and the shades look like the more expensive ones. As always Walmart had it delivered promptly and on time. Easy to put together I put a 23 watt brightwhite CFL bulb which has the equivalent luminescence of a 100 watt standard bulb with a beautiful natural light glow. (I don't use soft white bulbs because to me that's yellow light. And I have no use for yellow light.) With the black shade it gives off a very nice tint allowing just enough light through the shade. It looked so good to me and it is a well made lamp, all-be-it kind of light, it didn't look right without the matching set. So I ordered another one.
