Not necessary, especially for the extra long. I don't work so don't carry them. I am past menopause so use them for bladder problems. They are super absorbent and even better than comfortable. The adhesive goes to near the edge, not all the way so no body parts get caught up in the adhesive. Whew! Fit the panty perfectly. My only complaint is the package in pink.
