Purple tea is a unique varietal of the common tea leaf,?camellia sinensis, from which black, white and green teas are derived. Purple tea grows in the Equatorial region of Africa at elevations between 4,500 and 7,500 feet, where cooler temperatures prevail. Intense ultraviolet light bombardment causes the plant to produce high levels of protective anthocyanins, which give the leaves their purple color. These unique growing conditions also create higher levels of polyphenols than other teas, including a unique polyphenol only found in purple tea known as GHG. Each vegetarian capsule may contain up to 15 mg of caffeine.
