Lutein and zeaxanthin: They belong to the xanthophylls class of carotenoids also known as oxycarotenoid. They are natural fat soluble yellowish pigments, found in algae, phytosynthetic bacteria and in some plants as well as in chicken egg yolks.

Promotion effects on eye health: Lutein and zeaxanthin are mainly accumulated in the macula of the retina, where they bind to the retinal protein tuberlin. While lutein is distributed throughout the retina, zeaxanthin is specifically concentrated in the macula.

Product Description

Vitamin A is found in two basic forms, retinol and carotenoids. The carotenoids represent the most widespread group of naturally occuring pigments in nature. They are a highly colored (red & yellow) group of fat soluble compounds, composed of hydrocarbons (carotenes) and their oxygenated derivatives. Over 600 carotenoids have been characterized, only about 30-50 are believed to have vitamin A activity. Alpha, beta, gamma-carotene and cryptoxanthin are powerful antioxidant nutrients and possess provitamin A activity. They are converted to vitamin A in the liver and their plant sources are carrot and sweet potato.

Carotenoids maintain the health of moist soft tissues such as eyes, mucous membranes, skin and hair. Despite its main role in promoting good night vision, it also has substantial effects on the human immune response system by increasing antibody response and induction of white blood cells functions. Carotenoids improve antioxidant actions in tissues and blood components. Mixed carotenoids protect the skin against the harmful effects of UV radiation.
