This system is a ruggedly made, large capacity static correction containment system that is designed to handle up to 100 acres of coverage and is compatible with a number of PetSafe brand collars, so while it is designed to handle medium to larger dogs, it can also work well for dogs as small as 5 lbs.

Increase the life of your electric dog fence investment by ordering it with the included wire upgraded to a high quality, highly durable 14 gauge solid-core copper wire. This eXtreme brand wire comes insulated and protected in a polyethylene jacket that is 3 times as thick as the PVC jacket that comes on the standard factory packaged wire.

Where most wire lasts a handful of years, eXtreme wire will last for 20 years or more (even in extreme cold or heat), so you won't have to be out there trying to locate the signal break due to weather, moisture, or oxidation breakdown,. This wire can also be submerged without issue, and allow your dog access to his favorite swimming spot without being corrected for doing so.
