Up close, it has lots of scratches and some of the surface is not smooth. The base was also a little wonky, so it did not sit flat on the counter. I had to add tiny felt pads to the bottom to get it to sit right. I purchased this Site To Store, had I seen it in the store, I would not have bought it. Unfortunately, my store does not carry these, so I could not pick through them on the selves to find one that might have been better. I do like the look and it is solid and not cheap feeling. I would have returned it, but I needed it for a specific occasion and would not feel right returning it now after I used it. I ended up using it for help with photographing items I sell on Ebay. It easily accommodates the extra plush and long hand towels in my guest bath. It is sturdy and the matte bronze finish is well done. The price is very reasonable. I couldn't find this anywhere else on line.
