Weighing in at more than 400,000 pounds and with a length in excess of 80 feet and massive 5,000 horsepower tractive effort, the SD80MAC is one of the heaviest, longest and most powerful single diesel locomotives in the world. Originally purchased by Conrail, the locomotives were divided up between CSX and Norfolk Southern when the railroad dissolved. Today, many of these locomotives are still in service with CSX, having acquired the modern and striking ''Dark Future'' paint scheme that all new CSX locomotives now wear.
