The draft of the Declaration of Independence is presented to Congress in this historical scene that graces the United States Capitol Rotunda and the back of the U.S. two-dollar bill. Trumbull painted some of the images from life and visited Independence Hall to depict the chamber accurately. Though the signing took place over time and the signers were never actually in a room together, Trumbull was able to portray 42 of the actual 56 signers by locating source images.
