Our Beansprout Pillows (Dreampillows) are filled with 100% natural beansprout husks that have been gathered, sunned and carefully sorted by hand to ensure that only the best husks are used. Often made as a labour of love, beansprout-filled pillows are traditionally made by grandparents and parents in South East Asia to comfort their offsprings after they are born. The cooling effect of the natural beansprout husks make such pillows especially suitable for use in warm climates.

Placed over the chest and tummy area, a dreampillow will provide your baby with a sense of comfort and security by simulating the touch of a hand. This helps cushion against sudden movements and noises that may startle them. The soft rustle and natural scent of the natural beansprout husks also help calm them down and can be used as a natural sleeping aid for both newborn babies and toddlers. The perfect first pillow and childhood keepsake!

This product meets the safety requirements specified in EN71. One of our bestsellers, our beansprout pillow has been tested and approved by a very demanding group of babies to be the best pillow ever!

Our pillows are loved because unlike others, they are:

  1. Not too soft or hard
  2. Not too heavy or light
  3. Fun and pretty enough to sleep with

To use, simply distribute the husk fillings evenly within the pillow to form a thin layer and place over baby's chest. You can adjust the weight of the pillow by shifting the amount of husk fillings you want to place on baby and on his/her sides. Once baby falls into deep sleep, gently remove the pillow and place back when baby wakes up again.

You can also personalise your dreampillow through a process called “scenting”. This will help soothe you baby faster as he/she recognises your scent from the pillow and senses your closeness. To “scent” your beansprout pillow, sleep with it directly on your chest for 2-3 days before giving it to baby.  A “scented” dreampillow will help soothe your toddler as he/she transitions to a new environment (e.g. childcare centre or new caregiver’s home) away from you.

Each pillow measures 16 x 44 cm and weighs approx 200g.

Precautions

Always make sure that the pillow is kept away from baby’s face and does not cover his/her mouth and nose when used.

Never leave babies under the age of 12 months sleeping with the beansprout pillow (or any other loose object) in the crib unsupervised, unless advised by your own healthcare professional.

This product contains small parts that may escape and pose a choking hazard to young children. Always check all seams to ensure that they are secure.

Always inspect the pillows for dust and loose particles before giving it to your child.  Regularly remove and sun the inner pillow containing the husks to ensure that the natural fillings are kept dry and odour-free.

Discard product if the inner pillow containing the fillings is torn, or if the natural fillings have disintegrated to smaller particles that can easily escape from the pillow.

Pupsik Studio and its distributers/retailers will not be responsible for any unfortunate incidents that may arise from the misuse of this product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do babies need a beansprout pillow?

Beansprout pillows are made to provide the baby with a sense of being protected and close to his/her parents by simulating the touch of a hand. Blankets and other forms of pillows may also help but they are usually too warm for hotter climates. Many also find that the scent and soothing sounds of the beansprout husks help calm and relax babies and help them fall asleep easier. The beansprout pillow not only helps in the transition from your womb to the world, it will also help comfort your toddler when he moves to an unfamiliar place (e.g. childcare, caregiver's home) away from you.

How is a beansprout pillow used?

Simply distribute the husk within the pillow evenly to form a thin layer and place gently over babies's chest. You can adjust the weight of the pillow by shifting the amount of husk you want to place on baby.

Can I scent my beansprout pillow so it smells like me?

Absolutely! This will help calm and soothe you baby faster as he/she recognises your scent and sense your closeness. To scent your beansprout pillow, sleep with it directly on your chest for 2-3 days before giving it to baby. The scent will last a few days until the next wash. To get them involved, you can get siblings and grandmothers to help scent the pillow so baby recognises and bonds faster with them too!

Is the beansprout pillow too heavy to place over baby?

Our beansprout pillows weigh a mere 200g and many find this weight and size just right. You can also shift the filling within the pillow to decide how much weight to place on baby.

What is the recommended age for using a beansprout pillow

Beansprout pillows are traditionally used to sooth babies and toddlers from birth. However, we do not recommend leaving babies under the age of 12 months sleeping with the beansprout pillow (or any other loose object) in the crib unsupervised, unless advised by your own healthcare professional. Please inspect your pillow regularly for any dust or loose particles before giving it to your child.

Is it safe to leave the beansprout pillow in the crib with my baby unsupervised?

The beansprout pillow is made to soothe and make newborn babies feel secure and comfortable which helps them sleep faster. Once your baby fall into deep sleep, the pillow is removed and used when baby wakes up again. We do not recommend leaving baby sleeping with the beansprout pillow (or any other object) in the crib unsupervised until your baby is at least 6 months unless advised by your own healthcare professional.

How do I care for my beansprout pillow

The outer cover can be removed like a normal pillow cover and machine/handwashed. The inner pillow and filling of the pillow should be sunned regularly (once every 1-2 weeks depending on use) to keep the husks crisp and odour-free. Please inspect your pillow regularly for any dust or loose particles before giving it to your child.
